Hazeltine Park Tending Time

Description

white flowers with yellow center blooming with foliage

Do you love helping flowers to bloom? Learning about native plants, pollinators, and keeping weeds away? Spending time with nature and your neighbors? We're looking for volunteers to grow a group of plant pals at Hazeltine Park!

If you are seeking a consistent gardening focused volunteer event and love helping people connect to the nature in their neighborhood and want to help us share the word, please reach out to East Developed Parks Coordinator, Kimberléa Ruffu.

Join PP&R for volunteer events at Hazeltine Park to help with invasive plant removal, weeding, pruning, mulching, and other gardening activities.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about gardening and native plants, and to connect with your community. Plant care activities may vary monthly.

Open to all ages, paces, and skills. No experience is required to participate.

Youth under the age of 18 are welcome to attend with a parent or responsible adult.

Please register ahead of time by clicking "Respond" to sign up as an individual or "Respond for a team" to sign up more than one person. If you are not comfortable creating a login to register for any reason, please reach out to Kimberléa Ruffu (they/them) at kimberlea.ruffu@portlandoreon.gov.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us!

Site Accessibility

This park and the areas volunteers will be working in are mostly exposed to open skies. There is some shade at the park. There are no paved pathways in the park. Volunteers should plan to navigate across mostly flat grassy areas or soft surface (bark chip) pathways.

There will be a portable restroom onsite.

If you have questions about the accessibility of the event, please contact us.

If you have an ADA accommodation request to be able to participate in this volunteer event, please use the 311 ADA Accommodation Request webpage.

If you would like to learn more about or request language access services, please contact PDX 311.

We recommend making your request as soon as possible and at least 5 business days (Monday - Friday) in advance of the event.

Event Details and Reminders

Please bring a reusable water bottle if you have one, and any snacks you may need. Wear sturdy close-toed shoes and layers to dress for the weather.

Work looks and feels different for every body. We encourage volunteers to go at their own pace and take breaks to rest.

Keep yourself and your community safe and healthy - please stay home if you are sick. There will always be more opportunities to volunteer with us!
