Volunteer: Lilac Garden at Duniway Park

Join Portland Parks & Recreation in the historic Lilac Garden at Duniway Park for a morning of plant and garden care. This garden hosts over 125 different varieties of Lilacs and volunteers will have the opportunity to learn gardening techniques and strategies for long term care. We invite all members of the community to volunteer; no previous gardening experience is necessary. 

Please register ahead of time by selecting “respond” for an individual and “respond as team” to register more than one person. If you are not comfortable creating a login to register or have any difficulty registering, please contact kayla.miles@portlandoregon.gov. 

Tools, gloves, and project instructions will be provided. PP&R horticulturist will greet you on site.Events start at 9:00 am and end at 11:00 am.Site Information and Accessibility

Parking and transportation

The closest parking area to the garden is on SW Terwilliger Blvd. Parking is free in this lot and there is additional free parking located at the Duniway Track on SW Barbur Blvd.

Accessibility

The garden does not have paved, gravel, or mulched pathways. To access the Lilacs, volunteers will navigate grass, which is uneven. Volunteers will be working in the garden beds that have a layer of mulch and have mixed shade and open skies. Depending on the weather, volunteers might be working in direct sun exposure. There are restrooms located near the track, which is a .4-mile walk, about 8 minutes.

Help us keep Burlingame Park a thriving community space!

Join Portland Parks & Recreation for a family-friendly, monthly volunteer day to help with gardening and land care activities throughout the park. Regular activities include weeding, pruning, mulching, and plant installation. 

Projects and activities may vary monthly, and no experience is required to participate.
